Wireless Architecture - 11/17/05
Cisco's acquisition of Airespace earlier this
year led to some confusion as to the company's
direction for enterprise wireless networking.
Cisco recently executed on a number of
engineering initiatives that have combined its
Aironet and Airespace product lines. This
session covered the Unified Wireless
architecture by explaining the components, how
they interact, and the advanced management
features that simplify deployment and operation
of a wireless network. Bob Sayle, CCIE #10189 presented.

Geoff
Thompson, a CCSI specializing in Content
Networking who is a recognized expert on the
technology presented on Wide Area File Services
(WAFS).
WAFS’ impact on storage networking
could be compared to that of jet propelled
planes on transatlantic travel, cutting down the
transport delay across a WAN so that files can
be opened seven or eight times faster than at
present and saved in one-fifth to one-eighth of
the time.

in San Jose presented on Application
Acceleration for the Data Center. This is
becoming a very critical component in order to
speed content for Oracle, SAP, Peoplesoft and
other ERP applications. The discussion was
focused around Cisco's fine ground network
purchase of Velocity. Velocity is an
Enterprise Data-Center Appliance for improving
HTML and XML-based application performance,
measuring end user response time and managing
application security.
CiscoWorks LMS 2.5

release. This release is
an important milestone in providing
network management tools for
simplifying the configuration,
performance monitoring and
troubleshooting of Cisco devices in
today's enterprises. It
introduces a centralized system for
sharing device information across
all applications, improving
manageability and allowing the
management system to more
dynamically adjust to changes.

Cisco Security Specialist, presented on the
CS-MARS product. This product compliments
the self defending network architecture by
empowering the security and network organization
to monitor, analyze and mitigate security
threats.
Cisco IP Contact Center

NexusIS has been involved with many of SoCal's
IPCC implementations. Merrill Gilbert,
NexusIS Advanced Technologies Manager, presented
an overview of the IPCC platform, features,
differences between the Express and Enterprise
packages. They also shared customer best
practices and key lessons learned.
Cisco Security Agent Version 4.5

Creative Business Concepts has been a fixture in
the IT Integration landscape for the last 19
years. CBC presented CSA v. 4.5 to a group
of approximately 30 Orange County Cisco
Users. Bryan Nyce, Vice President of
Professional Services, demonstrated some of the
new features available with the 4.5 upgrade and
examined how a host responds to specific attacks
with the benefit of protection with CSA as it
compares to a host that is not protected.
Bax Global IP Communications -
4/21/05
BAX recently embarked on a pilot of IP Communications. Phase I installed Cisco CallManager; Unity Voice Mail; IPCC Express Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) System and phones in their Operations Center in Denver; and phones, mailboxes, and ACD agents working off those systems in Boston and Ontario, CA. BAX also installed a Unity Voice Mail system and phones at a large site in Los Angeles. Total scope of the pilot totaled over 230 phones and 35 ACD agents.
Georgeann Lovett presented the overall scope
of the pilot, and strategy for global implementation.
She included Lessons Learned from the vendor’s and BAX’s perspectives as compiled by a document created through a collaborative effort by both organizations after the installations were completed at the four sites.

with companies such as Motorola, Nortel
Networks, Scientific-Atlantic, and Paradyne focused
his discussion on the initial drivers of IP Telephony and discuss many real-world applications that are pushing the boundary of data-voice integration. The presentation
included demonstrations of some of these applications.

Garret Grajek a certified security specialist for Cisco
presented on the security features for Cisco’s new ISR Routers.
Cisco’s new routers are designed to provide the integrated functionalities of both data and video. All of this traffic needs to be transferred in a secure manner.
In addition to Cisco’s hardware upgrades to the ISR line, Cisco has added new unparalled security features in the IOS. These features include a certified Firewall, a fully configurable Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), VPN and others.

Neil Gipson, Trend Micro Systems Engineer: Cisco and Trend Micro collaborate to deliver comprehensive virus/worm outbreak prevention and mitigation services for customers. The integration of Trend Micro’s antivirus technologies and expertise with Cisco’s network infrastructure can deliver unique defenses against virus/worm threats. This alliance enhances the security strategies of both companies. Cisco’s Self-Defending Network strategy enables customers to identify, prevent and adapt to security threats. Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy (EPS) provides proactive management of the virus outbreak lifecycle.
Cisco's Self-Defending Network Initiative

Garret Grajek, Cisco's security specialist for Southern California, presented Cisco's
SDNI. A main thrust of SDNI is Network Admission Control (NAC). NAC is the ability to inspect quarantine and remediate users before they enter the network. The presentation
went through how enterprises can utilize Cisco's NAC to enforce security policies before allowing users on the network. The result of NAC is increased uptime for the network and increased reliability of the servers due to a lower infection rate.
