Raymond Montoya with PBM IT Solutions presented on Disruptive Technologies in Healthcare with a Focus on Mobility Solutions.  The intent of the presentation was to introduce many new technologies including RFID and examine the impact these technologies will have on transforming business practice and daily operations.

 

UOM and USM - 10/18/07

Larry Metzger with MTM Technologies presented on Cisco Unified Operations Manager 2.0 and Cisco Unified Services Monitor 2.0.  The presentation focused on what the products can provide and how they can be used to monitor and manage Voice Over IP solutions.

 

802.11n - 9/20/07

Bob Sayle with Cisco presented on the latest generation of high-speed wireless LAN solutions, based on the 802.11n standard, are now available.  The 802.11n standard will offer several advantages over previous wireless LAN technologies.

Ricky Boyd with HPNS hosted this presentation which focused on the Cisco 6500 architecture, best practices and tuning.

 

Response Time Measurements in a Cisco Network Environment - 2/15/07

John Willsey with NetQOS led a presentation focusing on response time measurements in a Cisco Network environment.  Cisco's IP-SLA technology was explained.  The ability to extract End to End Application performance from the network by leveraging advanced spanning technology in the 6500 series such as VACL and RSPAN was also discussed.

 

Cisco Wireless Mobility - 1/18/07

Richard Field with Cisco Systems presented.  Wireless continues to evolve and move from a nice service to offer your users to an essential business tool.  As a result, corporations are migrating from offering Wireless capabilities in conference rooms to pervasive deployment allowing increased productivity and enable mobility services including security, guest access, voice and location functionality.

Dan Stanton with Ascolta presented on the CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution which focuses on finding the correct tools within CiscoWorks to document the network, log changes that occur, deploy global changes to devices, monitor network performance and manage network faults.

Rob Calhoon with Cisco Systems presented on the Cisco ICS which prevents new worm and virus outbreaks from affecting businesses by enabling the network to rapidly adapt and provide a distributed response.

Cisco NAC Appliance & Version 4.0 Functionality - 6/15/06

John Gormally, Cisco Security Product Sales Specialist presented on the release of the Cisco NAC Appliance and version 4.0 functionality.  He reviewed the product highlights, code update, design considerations, future product considerations and provided a demonstration of Clean Access.

 

SSL VPN with Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance - 5/18/06

Tuan Bui, Cisco Engineer, spent the evening focusing on the various options available for SSL connectivity.  Tuan discussed the risk with SSL VPN connections and how Cisco Secured Desktop can alleviate those threats.

 

Building an Effective Security Monitoring Infrastructure - 4/20/06

Derek Shatz, CISSP and Senior Technical Lead with Connexion by Boeing examined the myriad sources of potentially useful security data on our networks, how to aggregate them and what tools can help to make sense of it all.

 

Cisco IP Telephony Discussion - 3/16/06

Steve Reasner, Cisco Voice Specialist and Michael Dennick, Cisco Voice Consulting Engineer spent the evening discussing Cisco Unity and VoiceCon 2006 highlights.  They also demonstrated Cisco Mobility Manager and the Unified Client Flash demo.

 

Cisco Security Expert Panel Discussion - 1/19/06

The Cisco Security Expert panel spent the evening answering all Cisco related security questions.  The panel of experts included Bryan Nyce, Vice President of Professional Services for Creative Business Concepts and Jack Wood, Cisco Certified Systems instructor and lead security course developer.

Unified Wireless Architecture - 11/17/05

Cisco's acquisition of Airespace earlier this year led to some confusion as to the company's direction for enterprise wireless networking.  Cisco recently executed on a number of engineering initiatives that have combined its Aironet and Airespace product lines.  This session covered the Unified Wireless architecture by explaining the components, how they interact, and the advanced management features that simplify deployment and operation of a wireless network.  Bob Sayle, CCIE #10189 presented. Bob is a Systems Engineer covering Southern California and Nevada enterprise accounts.  

 

Wide Area File Services-10/27/05

Geoff Thompson, a CCSI specializing in Content Networking who is a recognized expert on the technology presented on Wide Area File Services (WAFS).   WAFS’ impact on storage networking could be compared to that of jet propelled planes on transatlantic travel, cutting down the transport delay across a WAN so that files can be opened seven or eight times faster than at present and saved in one-fifth to one-eighth of the time.

 

Application Acceleration for the Data Center - 9/15/05  

Steve Poyer, Systems Engineering Manager with Cisco Systems in San Jose presented on Application Acceleration for the Data Center.  This is becoming a very critical component in order to speed content for Oracle, SAP, Peoplesoft and other ERP applications.  The discussion was focused around Cisco's fine ground network purchase of Velocity.  Velocity is an Enterprise Data-Center Appliance for improving HTML and XML-based application performance, measuring end user response time and managing application security.  

CiscoWorks LMS 2.5 - 8/18/2005                                                      

Dan Stanton presented on the CiscoWorks 2.5 release.  This release is an important milestone in providing network management tools for simplifying the configuration, performance monitoring and troubleshooting of Cisco devices in today's enterprises.  It introduces a centralized system for sharing device information across all applications, improving manageability and allowing the management system to more dynamically adjust to changes.  

 

Cisco MARS - 7/21/05 

John Gormally, Cisco Security Specialist, presented on the CS-MARS product.  This product compliments the self defending network architecture by empowering the security and network organization to monitor, analyze and mitigate security threats.

 

Cisco IP Contact Center  - 6/16/05

NexusIS has been involved with many of SoCal's IPCC implementations.  Merrill Gilbert, NexusIS Advanced Technologies Manager, presented an overview of the IPCC platform, features, differences between the Express and Enterprise packages.  They also shared customer best practices and key lessons learned.

 

Cisco Security Agent Version 4.5 w - 5/19/05 

Creative Business Concepts has been a fixture in the IT Integration landscape for the last 19 years.  CBC presented CSA v. 4.5 to a group of approximately 30 Orange County Cisco Users.  Bryan Nyce, Vice President of Professional Services, demonstrated some of the new features available with the 4.5 upgrade and examined how a host responds to specific attacks with the benefit of protection with CSA as it compares to a host that is not protected.

 

Bax Global IP Communications - 4/21/05

BAX recently embarked on a pilot of IP Communications. Phase I installed Cisco CallManager; Unity Voice Mail; IPCC Express Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) System and phones in their Operations Center in Denver; and phones, mailboxes, and ACD agents working off those systems in Boston and Ontario, CA. BAX also installed a Unity Voice Mail system and phones at a large site in Los Angeles. Total scope of the pilot totaled over 230 phones and 35 ACD agents.  Georgeann Lovett presented the overall scope of the pilot, and strategy for global implementation. She included Lessons Learned from the vendor’s and BAX’s perspectives as compiled by a document created through a collaborative effort by both organizations after the installations were completed at the four sites.

 

SSL VPN 4.7 featuring TWINGO - 3/24/05

OCCUG is happy to welcome back John Gormally, Cisco Security Product Specialist, who will be delivering a presentation on SSL VPN 4.7 TWINGO technoloy, which uses a clientless (web browser) or dynamically-downloaded client for remote access. There will be an interactive discussion about this critical topic.

 

IP Telephony Drivers and Real World Applications - 2/17/05

Jeff Fildey, a 15 year veteran of the telecommunications industry working in various senior positions with companies such as Motorola, Nortel Networks, Scientific-Atlantic, and Paradyne focused his discussion on the initial drivers of IP Telephony and discuss many real-world applications that are pushing the boundary of data-voice integration. The presentation included demonstrations of some of these applications.

 

Cisco ISR Routers - 1/20/05

Garret Grajek a certified security specialist for Cisco presented on the security features for Cisco’s new ISR Routers.  Cisco’s new routers are designed to provide the integrated functionalities of both data and video. All of this traffic needs to be transferred in a secure manner.  In addition to Cisco’s hardware upgrades to the ISR line, Cisco has added new unparalled security features in the IOS. These features include a certified Firewall, a fully configurable Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), VPN and others. 

 

Cisco MeetingPlace - 12/16/04

Robert Wolfe, Cisco Convergence Specialist, Norstan Communications presented Cisco Meeting Place, a conferencing and collaboration suite that enables IP or TDM based audio conferencing, web collaboration and recording of meetings.  Applications include desktop sharing, application sharing, remote training applications and many more.

 

Perfigo - 11/18/04

John Gormally, Cisco Network Security Product Sales Specialist presented Perfigo.  Perfigo provides a guarantee of safety by placing the logic of compliance on the network, not on the client. The Perfigo technology is a compliment to the Network Admissions Control architecture by providing application patching, anti-virus checking all in a turn key solution.

 

The Evolution of Network Security - 10/21/04

Neil Gipson, Trend Micro Systems Engineer: Cisco and Trend Micro collaborate to deliver comprehensive virus/worm outbreak prevention and mitigation services for customers. The integration of Trend Micro’s antivirus technologies and expertise with Cisco’s network infrastructure can deliver unique defenses against virus/worm threats. This alliance enhances the security strategies of both companies. Cisco’s Self-Defending Network strategy enables customers to identify, prevent and adapt to security threats. Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy (EPS) provides proactive management of the virus outbreak lifecycle.

 

Cisco's Self-Defending Network Initiative - 9/16/04

Garret Grajek, Cisco's security specialist for Southern California, presented Cisco's SDNI.  A main thrust of SDNI is Network Admission Control (NAC). NAC is the ability to inspect quarantine and remediate users before they enter the network. The presentation went through how enterprises can utilize Cisco's NAC to enforce security policies before allowing users on the network. The result of NAC is increased uptime for the network and increased reliability of the servers due to a lower infection rate.

Emerging Trends in IP Telephony - 8/17/04
Lisa Hale (Cisco Product Sales Specialist) and Miguel Zamarripa (Consulting Systems Engineer) presented an in-depth look at the driving force of IP Telephony and the various solutions which Cisco offers.
